Day 26 - We Have a Court Date!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Today was a good day, and one that we have been waiting and praying for. We have a court date! We will be appearing in court on the same day as our friends, June 14 at 2:00. We are very excited to finally have this in place!!! :)

We met with Sarah this morning first thing to talk about our cases and how they should be presented. We were really comfortable with her and feel like she will do her best to present our cases. Since we are going for adoption instead of legal guardianship, we have to show very good reason for an exception to be made and show that it is in the best interest of the child for this to happen. We worked on a list and gave it to Sarah and she thought we had some very good thoughts and she would work those into her presentation on Monday.

This judge typically will give rulings a few weeks after the initial hearing, so it looks like we will be flying out late Tuesday night and arrive home on Wednesday. Sarah said though that we should have a very good indication of how the judge will rule our cases when the hearing is complete. We are going to get a head start on getting passports in place for the girls, and we have contacted the US Embassy to let them know our cases are being processed.

There is still a lot that has to happen, but we are feeling really good about the progress that has been made. Thanks for all your prayers and please keep them coming for this next Monday. This is a no nonsense judge, but we are praying that God will soften her heart to us and the girls story and know that it will be the best thing for them to come home with us.

God has brought us this far, so we will continue to be faithful to His plan.

Love and Miss you all!

Sara and Dave

Tyler - Sorry we didn't get to talk today...looking forward to "seeing" you tomorrow morning! Love you! And, miss you! XOXOXO

  4. I'm dieing to know what judge you have! To my knowledge both female judges are on leave. I'm just curious. We have been waiting for Justice Muanguisha to return from being sick for two weeks. I have been here since Feb. 5th and have legal guardianship with the wrong ruling, so we are now going for full adoption. Look me up when you come! It's so important to have friends here who you can talk to, commisserate with and encourage each other.

  5. Hi Sara,
Guess I should have read more of your blog before i commented. I am finally understanding that you are already here and are flying home between court dates. So sorry we missed each other here! Where are you staying? We are currently in Muyenga (near Kansanga). But not for much longer, we are staing with another adopting dad who had his visa appt. last Monday and will probably be leaving this coming Tuesday if all goes well.

  6. Hi Suzy and Michelle,

We have Judge OKello. We know she is tough, but we are praying she will do what is in the best interest of these girls. We have been here since May 14...can't believe you have been here since February! I will pray for you that things will resolve soon. We are staying in a guesthouse in Gaba which is about 30 minutes outside of Kampala. We are going to travel home between court dates since we've got a family at home to get back to. With the upcoming court recess our attorney isn't sure our judge will rule before they go on break. I will check out your blog too Michelle!

    Thanks,
    Sara
