Day 22

Hello Family and Friends,


Today we spent most of our time in Kampala where we visited the craft market again. It is really neat there! Then we walked to the mall and had lunch. Livingstone was with us and tried his first cheeseburger. He loved it! The downtown area was just crazy today and trying to get a matatu back to the taxi park was nearly impossible. So, we decided to walk. Wow, the number of people is just amazing. We were weaving in and out of traffic and no sidewalk is free from holes, uneven pavement...so maneuvering me along with Dave through all of this was a little stressful. Mark equates it to the old video game Frogger. It actually a pretty good description of what is it like in Kampala.

We came back and had dinner and then Livingstone and Florence helped us sit down with the girls and explain what is happening over the next few weeks. They are understanding much of what we are saying, but the language barrier is still there. They are going to start school again on Monday. They go to school year round here three months at a time and then take a month off. So, we will be able to take the girls to and from school each day and do homework with them, which will be fun. We assured the girls that if we have to leave without them, we will be back within a few weeks to bring them home. They seemed sad (as are we) but I think they understand it will not be for long.

Tomorrow we are going to the market with Florence to get some items we need to make a Chinese meal. We are making egg rolls and chicken fried rice. They are enjoying trying some new foods and it is fun to see their reactions to it. We are just falling more in love with our extended family here. Livingstone, Florence and Teddy are some of the most wonderful, giving people you could meet. It is going to be hard to leave them too!

Monday we are going to try to meet with Sara, our new attorney to start working on our case for court. She was in a workshop today, so Monday she will try to secure a court date on June 14, or at least within a day or two of that. Please pray that she is successful in making this happen. I think it will be important for the judge to be able to relate these two cases together for the girls sake.

We are pleased with the progress we made this week in finding new representation and for God giving us that direction. We emailed Peter yesterday, but have not heard back from him yet. There is still much that needs to happen. Please pray for our attorney Sara, Judge OKello, the US Embassy here and the USCIS office in Chicago. Please also pray that Fiona and Rachael are protected through all of this as we do not want them to hurt anymore than they already have in their lives. If we have to leave, we are leaving them in wonderful, loving hands though and we will do all we can to bring them home as soon as possible. I am still praying for a miracle though - anything can happen with God on our side.
